The monkey forest of Alas Kedaton is one of nature’s famous monkey forest on the island of Bali, has an area of approximately 6.4 hectares inhabited by hundreds of great monkeys and bats (bats). The name of Alas Kedaton is taken from the word “alas” which means forest / jungle and “kedaton” which means palace (palace).
Alas Kedaton monkey forest is located in Kukuh Village, Marga Subdistrict, Tabanan Regency, approximately 35 kilometers from Denpasar City. Kedaton Forest is a small rainforest which is a sacred monkey forest and very guarded by the people of the Island of the Gods.

Species of apes / monkeys on the island of Bali and also inhabit the forest of Alas Kedaton is a type of crab-eating macaque (its Latin is Macaca Fascicularis) also called long-tailed macaque. This type of monkey is the original inhabitant of primate cercopithecine in Southeast Asia.
This monkey is also referred to as a cynomolgus monkey in the laboratory, and has a long history with humans. They are also regarded as agricultural pests, as sacred animals in some temples and temples, and also as subjects of medical experiments. These apes live in matrilineal social groups with female hierarchy dominance in the wild, and males will leave their group when they reach puberty.
This type of monkey as an adult has a body length that varies between 38-55 cm (15-22 inches) with a relatively short arm and leg. Male apes are much larger than females, weighing 5 to 9 kilograms compared with females between 3-6 kg.
Has a tail longer than its body, usually between 40-65 cm (16-26 inches) used for balance when they jump up to a distance of up to 5 meters (16.4 feet). The upper body is dark brown with light golden brown. The lower part is light gray with dark gray / brown on the tail.
This type of ape has hair that is sometimes in the form of a short peak line from head to back up on its back. Their skin is black on the feet and ears, while the skin on the snout is a grayish pink color. The eyelids often have prominent white markings and sometimes there are white spots on the ears.
In males have the characteristics of mustache and cheek whiskers, while in females only have a mustache cheek. This monkey has a cheek pouch that they use to store food while foraging. In females does not show swelling of the perineum.

The Alas Kedaton monkey forest is a monkey forest that is well known amongst the monkey forest in Bali as well as a favorite destination for local and international tourists. This place is mostly visited by tourists especially during public holidays or school holidays.
Visitors will usually be accompanied by a local guide who knows the area around the forest to guide tourists to see around the temple and forest area Alas Kedaton. The monkeys in Kedaton forest are very friendly to visitors but even so visitors are advised to remain cautious about their luggage and not too close to the monkeys as they will also be able to attack when they are disturbed.
Not far from the monkey forest there are also other facilities such as a playground for children, a large parking lot and stalls selling souvenirs for souvenirs.
